Cliff House Holidays have just had Candengo WiFi installed covering the Bar and Restaurant, Reception, Holiday Cottages and the Hotel.  Utilising a combination of our AirSpot 1000 external access points and AirSpot Internal repeaters the system provides per user bandwidth limitations to ensure that the broadband is able to be shared around without degrading  - being in rural suffolk the broadband onto site is limited.

To give some Clarity on how the Wireless Network is being utilised, our guest management system, Caprica was made available to manage the system in real time.  You can read more about Caprica here

Many wifi providers don’t actually log the information required to cover you – fact.  We’ve recently taken over around 20 sites from a competitor when they went bust and when we reconfigured their equipment, there was NO form of logging capability.  No VPN access, no syslog servers, no netflow. Nada. Nothing.

Its a good job those customers switched to Candengo, and didn’t opt to simply have their service re-enabled (although some did)  - as no logging means that any civil or criminal cases will stop with the broadband bill payer.

A case in the news at the moment is that O2 have been forced by the high court to reveal the names and addresses of their customers who had downloaded or viewed some port sites online.   Do you really want to risk this happening to you or your business?

If a Candengo solution is installed, we can identify the individual user on your network responsible to ensure that your business reputation is not harmed by such lawsuits.

Ferry Marina, Horning, Norfolk have installed Candengo WiFi across all their moorings and holiday cottages.  The system comprises 3 Airspot 1000 access Points, an AirGuardian Gateway controller, and an AirBridge feeding internal Access Points for the holiday cottages.

Installation was carried out using plastic cased equipment to guard against rust and corrosion ( we’ve seen some pretty badly rusted housings and poles which soon become unsafe ).  Our trusty cherry picker was used extensively on this installation due to the height of the Boat Workshop and the holiday cottages which are converted from an old boatyard building.

Knowing how your WiFi provision is being used is very important.  Firstly, you need to know your clients are’nt going to land you in trouble and secondly, its an excellent marketing and communication tool.

We know this , which is why we have developed our own WiFi Provisioning and Management portal aimed with you, the customer in mind.  No technical stuff here, just simply, easy to use yet powerful management tools.

Lets Start with, what we call the Dashboard Screen.

This dashboard screen shows us how many visitors the wifi has attracted this month (A) , the locations of the hotspots on the site  (B) (if theres more than one), the status (green is good, red is dead) .  We also see users currently online (C), along with how long they have been online, how much they have uploaded and downloaded.  Lastly, we see the other nodes on the network (D) , showing when they last checked in, how much load they are under, and the option to bring up per-node reporting.

Next we have the reporting screen which shows us all the months sessions, how much bandwidth has been used on a day per day basis, what browser and what operating system is being used.

You can also see usage by site (if you had more than one), or by access points.  This lets you know what area’s are busiest so you can plan additional marketing etc.

Next we have bandwidth per site, so you can see upload and download traffic allowing you to plan for expansion of the ADSL or leased lines if required.

Lastly, New users Per Site:  This is aimed at multi site venues so you can see how many new users are signing up for service at your site.

Note that although this screen is showing just one months use, you can select previous months usage, or even whole date ranges to report upon.

Additional reports can be added and designed if required.

Settings.

The screen below shows the general settings page, which allows you to set the core WiFi features:  The SSID (the name of the wifi network), Any venue or site password, along with settings for the automatic change feature (weekly, fortnightly or monthly), password length and change times.

You can also set default upload and download speeds for users that they inherit when they create their accounts, along with timeouts such as session timeout (how much access in one go) , force timeout ( log out every X despite have access remaining), how many concurrent logins a user may have, and wether or not automatic login is enabled.

You may also set walled garden domains, which allows you to grant access to certain websites without the need to register – for example, allowing customers to access your websites or menu etc without the need to log in.

If you are charging for access, you can enter your own Paypal credentials allowing you to collect payments direct to your own paypal account.  We’re not charging any revenue share any more, simply working on a monthly management fee instead.

Theres lots more to show – check back soon for screenshots on the branding, packages and voucher management system.

Candengo cover around 3-4,000 miles per month per engineer on installations and scheduled maintenance visits – thats around £800 per month in fuel costs.  Well, we don’t like that.  Not at all.

In a specifically commissioned study the highly respected Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) has shown that even a modest cut in fuel duty of 2.5 pence per litre would create a staggering 180,000 new jobs and would on its own, boost GDP by 0.33 percent. This in-depth research also shows that such a cut will not cost the Treasury a penny.

Mr Osborne, what are you waiting for?
